12th December 2022

Introducing your little one to the most wonderful and festive time of year can be one the most exciting but daunting things. But how do you do it?

For us, there’s nothing like the Christmas period, and what better way to get them excited than to endure in activities for all! The lead up to the big day can be more exciting and cheerful than the day itself – Filled with love from family and friends.

In this Kixx blog, we explore activities for little ones over Christmas, whether they be lone, or family included. After reading this, you certainly won’t be out of ideas over Christmas.

What Are Good Christmas Activities For Kids?

Childhood holiday memories can last a lifetime, which is why as parents we want to do whatever we can to make this time of year magical and meaningful for our kids. Big events, like decorating the tree and opening gifts, are traditions we all look forward to.

But there are lots of ways, both big and small, to bring special moments of wonder and joy to the season. Here are 10 ways to make this year’s Christmas period, one your little ones will never forget.

1.     Host A Game Night

Christmas is the perfect time to break out your favourite board games that you never seem to have time to play. Let each family member choose their favourite and try all-ages games or team up if you need to cover many different ranges and abilities.

2.     Get Your Bake On

Toddlers will love helping you mix, roll, cut out and ice some Christmas biscuits (and making a mess in the process). Oh, they’ll probably enjoy eating them too 🙂

Depending on whether or not you have a future Bake Off star in training, you could even give them as gifts. The only thing is you just might have to do most of the hard work.

3.     Go Ice-Skating

Bundle up and head to your local Ice rink to enjoy one of the best winter activities ever. It will be particularly special if your child has never gone before, and you can be there to teach them the right moves.

4.     Matching Christmas Pyjamas

Something so little, but something so special. There are a few events that call for matching pyjamas, but Christmas is one of them for sure. We recommend going beyond just the kids and get every adult involved too.

5.     Christmas Hunt

This one takes a little additional work and planning from a grown-up but can be really fun and engaging. Set up clues around the house and, depending on skill level, have one lead to another or go all-out and have a Christmas treasure hunt. Be sure to have a few special items, gold stars, Christmas chocolates or a prize for the “winner.”

6.     Movie Night/Or Day

Cold winter nights are perfect for watching festive movies. Put on your Christmas pyjamas and watch classics like The Grinch or The Polar Express. Talk about your favourite parts over popcorn and see if your little ones can have a favourite for the year after. You can then even take them to watch it live in theatre.

7.     Sledging & Snowmen

If we are fortunate enough to see snow in the UK, don’t make a mistake by missing upon the opportunity to go sledging. Buy a sledge and take your little ones to the nearest open field, you certainly won’t regret it, and it may even become a family favourite.

8.     Sporting Activities

As a treat during Christmas there are some paid activities and sports your littles ones will love. Whether it’s just over the Christmas period, or all year round. They can take part in football, swimming, rugby, or martial arts.

9.     Counting Down To The Big Day

An Advent calendar will help you mark the days until Christmas or celebrate for 25 days in a row with a fun treat to enjoy waiting behind every little door. Make your own or buy one with a theme that the whole family will look forward to opening every day.

10.  Donate Gifts This Christmas

Pay your blessings this Christmas to less fortunate children. Cleaning out the play room or bedrooms also makes more room for new toys to be fully appreciated. Many churches and community centre’s hold toy collection points around the holidays.
