How To Get The Most Out Of Your Child’s Football Classes

7th August 2024

In this blog, we will discuss how to get the most out of your child’s football classes. There is a lot that can be done, on and off the pitch, to improve your little one’s experience when it comes to football classes. Continue reading to find out more…

Choosing The Right Football Classes

Age

Basing football classes on your child’s age group is one of the best ways to ensure it is age-appropriate. That way, it’s more likely that everyone in the class is like-minded and at a similar developmental stage.

The only separation we have at Kixx is by age group. Boys and girls enjoy Kixx together and all our sessions are developmentally structured and delivered age-appropriate for maximum learning, engagement and fun!

Coaching Style

Different football academies can offer different coaching styles and techniques. Finding one that suits your values is important.

At Kixx, our coaching style is all about promoting confidence and creating a positive environment for children to learn.

We not only help with improving football skills but also a child’s motor skills and communication skills that are useful for both on and off the pitch.

Other grassroots academies might have training where children are competing for a place on a team or are in a more pressured environment. Not every child is the same and some children engage better in different environments. It’s about you choosing the right environment for your family.

Location

Finding a children’s football class near you is, of course, another important factor when getting the most out of your child’s football classes. At the end of the day, it needs to be accessible where possible to make it easy to attend each week.

Availability

Consistent practice is what leads to improvement. Some football classes might only be open during term times. Others might not be open for weekly sessions. Some might even require a lot of commitment with multiple sessions in a week.

It really depends on what you think will suit your child’s routine the best. At Kixx, we offer weekly sessions all year round, throughout the summer holidays, indoors and outdoors.

Preparing Your Child For Football Classes

To make the most out of your child’s football classes, the first step is to familiarise them with the sport at home. Here are some ways you can go about doing this, based on our previous blog How To Prepare for Your Child’s First Football Lesson…

  • Get a Football for Home Practice – Start having a kickabout at home! It doesn’t have to be anything too technical, but playing basic games at home could give you an indication if your child is taking a shine to the sport. To make things even easier, we have footballs available in our online shop.
  • Get The Family Involved– One of the main ways children pick things up is by copying those around them. If your little one sees you enjoying football, their natural instinct can be to join in and have fun with you!
  • Watch A Game – Pop a game of footy on the telly or even better, go and watch a team. This doesn’t have to cost a thing as there are always local teams available to watch, or even just a couple of quid to help support your local non-league sides.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Child’s Football Classes

1. Positive Reinforcement

Not every kick will result in a goal. Not every skill will come naturally. And that’s perfectly okay! Offering positive reinforcement at every step of the way will motivate and encourage your child to keep trying. There’s no such thing as overnight success!

Our biggest achievement is seeing children become more resilient and self-confident. Not because of the number of games they win, but because they know they’re superstars no matter what!

    2. Reinforcing Skills At Home

To get the most out of your child’s football classes, it might be a fun idea to skills at home. Repetition and practice help to ingrain new skills. When it comes to the next session, not only will they have the new skill nailed, but they will also be ready to learn more!

      3. Balance Football With Other Activities

We’re all familiar with that all-consuming feeling when something is new, fun, and exciting! Like a new song you play over and over and over again… But eventually, it becomes tiring and our interest fades. The same can happen when taking on a new hobby, like football!

If you want to get the most out of your child’s football classes, we advise mixing other activities into playtime at home. For some fun examples to switch up playtime, why not read our blog What To Do With Your Infants This Summer
