The Growing Popularity Of Football For Girls

26th July 2023

As we find ourselves in a world which is constantly challenging stereotypes and breaking down barriers, we have seen an increase in popularity when it comes to sports and activities which were perhaps once branded as ‘boys’ games’. It is no secret that football has been specifically regarded as a game for boys, with lots of female footballing stars starting their footballing journey playing for boys’ teams – we’re here to share how girls can do it too! At Kixx, we have seen a growing popularity of football for girls, especially following the successes of England’s Lionesses. In this blog, we will delve into the reasons behind the growing popularity of football for girls and why your child should consider signing up for our football academy.

At Kixx, it isn’t about being part of a football academy for girls or boys, but just a football academy for kids! Whether your child is a toddler or a ten year old, has never kicked a ball or has experience at grassroots clubs’, we want children to become a part of #TeamOrange. With that being said, however, we are noticing an upsurge in footballing activities for girls since the women’s Euro’s success in 2022.

The history of women’s football stretches back far and the growing popularity of football for girls and women continues to increase in the present day, accumulating a larger fan base, and more young girls turning to football as their chosen hobby and maybe even career path!

Why Has The Popularity Of Football For Girls Grown?

There are so many reasons why we have seen a growing popularity of football for girls in the 21st century, one of the biggest reasons being the female role models we are seeing pave the way for female football. The emergence of talented female football players as role models has significantly attracted young girls to the sport. The success and achievements of players like Megan Rapinoe, Vivianne Miedema, and Marta Vieira da Silva as well as our own English players have shown aspiring female athletes that they, too, can dream big and achieve greatness in football. At Kixx, we strive to inspire young children by celebrating the achievements of these footballing role models and fostering a culture of empowerment.

Another reason the popularity of girls’ football has grown is that more and more people acknowledge the benefits that football can provide off the pitch. Football is more than just a sport and it instils valuable life skills that benefit children both on and off the pitch. Children who train at a football academy gain self-confidence, teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Not only does it offer great mental benefits but physical benefits too, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for children.

At Kixx we aim to embrace equality and inclusivity, which leads us to our third reason why we feel there has been an increase in the popularity of girls’ football. One of the reasons behind the growing popularity of football for girls is the increased emphasis on equality and inclusivity. Gone are the days when football was considered a boys only sport. We are seeing more and more parents, coaches, and communities encouraging girls to pursue their passion for football and Kixx is no exception! At our football academy, we believe in providing a safe and nurturing environment for all children to learn, grow, and showcase their skills.
