In today’s blog, we will be talking you through the essential skills your 3-year-old will master in football training.
At Kixx, we wholeheartedly believe that every child, whether it’s on or off the pitch, has the potential to shine. When it comes to our football lessons for 3-year-olds, we aim to nurture key skills that will go on to help them in nursery, school and beyond.
And what better way to create an exciting, supportive, and inclusive environment than through the legendary sport of football? But you might be thinking, is 3 years old too old to start football classes?
For many young players who take part in our football classes for 3-year-olds, it is their first experience taking part in a club or team sport. It is our aim to make each session as enjoyable and as rewarding as possible, so each child walks away with more than just technical skills.
So, what exactly are the essential skills your 3-year-old will master in football training? Let’s take a look…
The Essential Skills Your 3-Year-Old Will Master in Football Training
1. Basic Motor Skills & Coordination
At 3 years old, most children are still practising the art of basic movement. They’re very much in a phase of pushing boundaries and seeing what their bodies are capable of. It may come as a surprise to them, and almost certainly surprises parents every day.
According to the NHS, at 3, most toddlers are running at speed, jumping, climbing, pedalling, beginning to master balancing on one leg, and can throw and kick a ball. Phew, we’re tired just writing all that down!
At Kixx’s football classes for 3-year-olds, we incorporate various activities and games that allow children to freely develop these skills in a safe, controlled environment. By keeping it light hearted and playful, your toddler will barely notice that they’re developing balance and coordination- but you surely will!
2. Controlling A Ball
We’re here to help 3-year-olds enhance skills they are just beginning to master- such as kicking a ball. At weekly football sessions, your child will learn simple techniques that will help them control a ball and grasp the basic foundations of the game.
One day, they’re taking their first steps, and in a flash, you’ll see your little one practice dribbling with a group of friends! It truly is an amazing thing to watch, which is why we allow the parents to be just as involved in our football classes as the children.
Mastering ball control at an early age sets an excellent foundation for learning more advanced skills down the line. Just think, Ronaldo started playing football at 9… So, take that 6-year advantage!
3. Social Skills
Of course, at Kixx, we want to bring the best out of every individual in our football classes. But it’s also important to remember that football is a team sport.
Football classes at Kixx are a fun, welcoming space for children to hang out with their peers, play together, and make friends, before beginning their nursery or school journey, which can naturally be quite overwhelming!
By involving group activities in our lessons, we help children develop key social skills, like sharing, waiting for their turn, and communication. We champion inclusivity and positive reinforcement, helping every child to the necessary confidence to be themselves and form friendships that go beyond the football pitch.
4. Following Instructions
For most children in our football lessons for 3-year-olds, following instructions in a structured setting is a new experience. It can be a challenging transition, especially as joining a football class is so exciting!
Our football sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for toddlers to practice listening, understanding simple instructions, and following through with actions. These skills will certainly serve them well in a years’ time when big school starts!
Basic instructions like taking turns or listening when a coach speaks will contribute to your 3-year-olds cognitive development and ability to engage in group learning.
