How To Balance Football Classes And Schoolwork

8th October 2024

Knowing how to balance football classes and schoolwork isn’t something that comes easy to everyone. But, at Kixx, we believe taking part in football lessons will support children in school, in more ways than you may initially think.

In this blog, we’ll be offering our advice on how to balance football classes and schoolwork. As our parents know, when it comes to children, there is never a one-size-fits-all answer. Every child is wonderfully unique and will cope with things differently- whether it be outside of school activities or schoolwork. Our tips are purely generalised and based on our experiences working with children for over a decade!

Our Advice On How To Balance Football Classes And Schoolwork

As we’re halfway through the first term of the school year, we are sure your little one is now coming home with plenty of homework assignments, keeping them busy after school.

We know how hard it can be to find the time for after-school activities and homework. There are only so many hours in the day and sometimes motivating our little ones to do their homework can be a challenge. It might start to feel like something has to give…

Physical activity and homework are both crucial for child development, so it shouldn’t have to be a question of which is the priority. Why choose only one when your child can have both?

We should point out; that we are in no way ‘motivation’ or ‘time-management’ experts. Not everything we say here will work for every home or every child, as every child is different. Only you know what will work best.

Kixx’s Top Tips On How To Balance Football Classes And Schoolwork

Managing Time After School

We know how hard it can sometimes be to nail down a routine. Children, as we all know, can be unpredictable. When we refer to ‘time management’ here at Kixx, we’re not talking about a strict hourly plan. That’s not fun for anyone!

At Kixx, we think of time management as building a game plan- just like we would on the pitch! Here are our tips on how to balance football classes and schoolwork by managing time after school-

  • Set Mini Goals- Every win, big or small, is something to celebrate. We always want our football lessons to be something your little one looks forward to. Once they finish their homework, the victory is coming to practice.
  • Come Up With A Game Plan- Our Kixx sessions will usually be held on the same day, at the same time, every week. This makes it easier for parents to work this into a weekly plan and fill the time around school and football- whether that be with focusing on schoolwork, seeing family, or other extra circular activities.

Making School And Football Go Hand-In-Hand

At the core of every session at Kixx is fun and positivity. But, as leaders working with children across the country, we also recognise how we play a crucial role in child development.

In practice and beyond, football teaches valuable lessons that can be applied in the classroom too! For more on this, you can check out our latest blog post Exploring The Benefits Beyond The Game.

At Kixx, we believe football sessions can help boost your child’s confidence and develop qualities like focus, discipline, and perseverance. Here are some ways football and schoolwork go hand in hand-

  • Teamwork and Collaboration- At football practice, children learn how to work as team players, which can support them in the classroom. We want to encourage children to approach every group project or class discussion with the same #TeamOrange spirit they have in practice.
  • Resilience and Problem Solving- Football requires quick decision-making and bouncing back quickly from mistakes. The same goes for learning in school. So, when it comes to that tricky math question, they know they have the resilience to solve it.

  • Recognise how football lessons and schoolwork complement each other.
  • Embrace a routine, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself!
  • Celebrate the small wins- on and off the pitch or in and out of the classroom.
