After 12 months, your little one is now 1 year old – So congratulations, you made it through! I’m joking, the first 12 months are crazy, they develop, learn, and start becoming their own. They have gone from a sleepy baby to a whirlwind of a toddler.
At the 1 year mark, your child is beginning to explore the world around them even more – and they may even be starting to communicate with you with an ever-expanding vocabulary.
In this Kixx blog, we want to explore what can I do with a 1 year old, whether that be within the comfort of your home or activities outdoors. We want you to have plenty of choices to support your child’s development.
Playful Activities For A 1 Year Old
If you’re constantly searching for activities for your little ones, we have you covered. Have they just started walking and want to move and play all day long? Do you want to do everything with them to help encourage their development, and processing of the world around them, with fun learning activities!
Have An Interactive Storytime
While reading your child a book, make it interacting associate it with things and objects in your home. At 12 months, your toddler is rapidly developing her language skills. The more words she hears when you talk and read to her, the more she’ll start to make connections between sounds and words.
Play With A Football Or Have Football Lessons
Playing with a ball is so versatile. Roll a ball back and forth to one another. Encourage your 1 year old to kick or throw the ball as well.
At 18 months old, just shortly after their 1st birthday, you can sign your child up to Football Lessons. Kixx has multiple football academies around the country, so accessing one near your home won’t be an issue.
Explore The Outdoors
Other than taking your child to football lessons, you can venture outdoors and let your child enjoy the fresh air. Being outside offers your 1 year old many learning opportunities, from nature objects to observe to exploring with their hands.
And by outdoors, we don’t mean a full weekend camping trip—something as simple as a visit to your local park or playing in the back garden will do.
Create A Den
To help your child better understand the space around her and to be creative. Make dens for them to explore and play hidey boo.
Easy methods: Get a blanket and attach them up high. Remove the tops and bottoms from an assortment of boxes, then tape them together to create a long tunnel to crawl through.
Painting, Yes Painting
A lot of people shy away from painting with babies and toddlers because it’s ‘too hard’ or ‘too messy’. Now, I won’t disagree with any of them statements, but it can also be a lot of fun and gives them the opportunity to be creative and mark make. I’ve also yet to meet a one year old who hasn’t loved painting. The trick to painting with one year olds is that you need to be prepared and get set up before you get them involved.
Put down a drop cloth, get your washable paints (always get washable at this age) and some brushes and then you’re ready to go. I always keep a packet of wipes close by too.
